Itinerary
01
Thu 21 May · arrival
40 km · 1h30 drive · 1 flight

Land at Dehradun. Up through Mussoorie to Landour.

  1. BOM-DED & BLR-DED arrivals

IndiGo 6E ✶ from Mumbai · Air India AI ✶ from Bengaluru. Land within thirty minutes of each other; meet at the exit gate.

  2. Cab up to Mussoorie

Pre-booked Innova for all five days. The road climbs through Kempty bypass — fast, scenic, no detours.

  3. Lunch at Café By The Way

Skip Mall Road for now. Cosy upper-Mall café, valley view, decent pasta and pour-overs.

  4. Camel’s Back Road walk

The 3 km cantonment loop that connects Mussoorie to Landour. Mostly downhill on the way out, oak and rhododendron either side, the Camel-shaped rock at the halfway turn.

  5. Sunset at Gun Hill

The cable car from Mall Road takes you up in five minutes. Quieter at this hour. Stay until the lights below come on.

  6. Transfer up to Landour

Ten-minute drive past the cantonment gate to Rokeby Manor. The 1840s stone bungalow has eight rooms, fireplaces, a lawn over the Doon Valley.

  7. Dinner at Doma’s Inn

Tibetan momos & thukpa under painted prayer-flag motifs. Walk back through the deodars.

Fri 22 May · slow day
0 km · all on foot

A whole day at Landour. Held lightly.

No driving. No clock. A long breakfast, a slow walk, a viewpoint at golden hour, and one small thing already arranged for the evening — leaving that part as a surprise.

Sat 23 May · the climb
50 km · 2h drive · 3 km uphill walk

Up to Surkanda Devi, then over to Dhanaulti.

  1. Early breakfast, slow pack

One last coffee at Char Dukan. Buy a tin of strawberry jam from Prakash Stores.

  2. Drive: Landour → Kaddukhal

Hour and a half through Suakholi viewpoint. The road bends along the Mussoorie–Tehri ridge.

  3. Surkanda Devi · 1.5 km uphill

One of the 51 Shakti Peethas — where the head is said to have fallen. The walk through deodar to the summit shrine takes an hour up, half coming down. Bell, sanctum, panoramic view of the Bandarpoonch range.

  4. Lunch at Kaddukhal dhabas

Rajma chawal, hot pakoras, sweet tea. ₹150 each.

  5. Drive to Dhanaulti

Twenty minutes downhill. Check in at The Terraces — ridge cottages in deodar forest.

  6. Eco Park · Amber + Dhara trails

Two looping forest paths. The kind of grove that absorbs sound. Ninety minutes, easy.

  7. Bonfire dinner at camp

Open-fire grill, no Wi-Fi, all the stars.

04
Sun 24 May · forest day
15 km · 30 min drive · 6 km walk

Across to Kanatal. A whole day in the Kaudia forest.

  1. Sunrise at Dhanaulti

Coffee in bed, the valley filling up with mist below the cottage.

  2. Drive: Dhanaulti → Kanatal

Thirty minutes through Kaddukhal. Drop bags at The Terraces Kanatal — same group, different ridge.

  3. Kaudia Forest walk

The 6 km level loop through dense deodar and oak. Almost no one on it. Watch the trees open onto the valley at the halfway point.

  4. Lunch at the camp

Garhwali thali on the lawn. Earned, after the walk.

  5. Slow afternoon at the cottage

Books, hammock, bath. Optional Tehri Lake side trip if the day calls for it — 1h descent, the reservoir at golden hour, water sports if you want them. Otherwise stay put.

  6. Bonfire on the ridge

Camp’s open-air pit. Skewers, mulled wine if it’s cold. The night sky does what it does at 2,590m.

05
Mon 25 May · descent
100 km · 3h30 drive · 1 flight each

Sunrise at the camp. Slow descent to Dehradun.

  1. Sunrise at Kanatal viewpoint

Walk to the camp’s lookout with chai. Light comes over the Bandarpoonch range first.

  2. Pack & depart

Late breakfast at camp. Drive begins by 10:30.

  3. Pit stop · New Tehri or Chamba

    Coffee, washroom, last hill-air photographs.

  4. Lunch in Mussoorie outskirts

Avoid Mall Road. Char Dukan if you want one last paratha.

  5. Reach Dehradun airport

4-hour buffer from camp built in for traffic.

  6. Departures

BOM and BLR direct. Land home before midnight.

Budget

The numbers are still being squared up.

Flights are locked, the stays are price-quoted, and the activities are pre-paid in spirit if not yet in fact. I’ll send a tidy total once we choose a route — easier to commit to a single number than to four.
